Apartment

These are just some pictures of my apartment. There is my room with closet and bathroom (note the mosquito net. something i dislike about TnT is the humidity and mosquitos! it is near impossible to not get bitten, esp when mosquitos have always liked you. I constantly have multiple bites, but at least I can sleep w/o feeling like I'm getting bitten!). We then have the dining/living area and the kitchen and hallway. That top picture is just to give you a sense of the sewer system here. Yep, its all pretty much open like this. On the Main Road it is under the side walk, but there are multiple holes to fall through b/c people take the sewer covers. People here also litter a lot. even though there are trash cans all over (especially on campus). Oh and when it rains, these sewers often flood into the street and there is often a sewer smell. I would show pictures of the outside, but I'd rather be safe and not have someone get access to this link and recognize my building! I'll try and put pictures up of the Eastern Main Road and campus soon

Divali Nagar in Chaguanas (central Trinidad)

These are just some pictures from Divali Nagar, which I will describe as an Indian State Fair that is put on for 5 days before Diwali (Hindu holiday meaning "Festival of Lights"). Basically, the holiday celebrates light's (or good's) triumph over darkness (evil). There were a lot of food and clothing vendors selling Indian 'delicacies' and souvenirs. There was Indian dancing and information about the different sects (denominations) of Hinduism. And of course there were fireworks.

Freedom Rain Concert

This bottom picture is my friend, Jabari's, band, Blue Culture. Jabari is the one playing the red guitar. The middle pictures are of just the venue. It was kind of an open-air tiki bar right ont he Chaguaramas Bay. The top picture is of the main act, Three Canal, who were excellent...I want their cd.

TnT Soca Warriors vs U.S. World Cup Football match Oct. 15, 2008

The game and the fans. TnT fans are crazy. When they scored the two goals (2-1 finish), everyone jumped up and threw beer into the air and in general just went crazy. Some were even crying...this was a very big deal to them. I believe this was the first time they beat the U.S. and if they had lost this game, they would have been out of the running for the World Cup.

Toco

Ok. These pictures only give you a taste of the awesomeness that is this beach house. The top picture is of me and my friend, Rashida, whose aunt owns this paradise. The middle photo is a picture of part of the property, including the gazebo with hammocks. The bottoms picture is looking out onto the private beach from the yard on the cliff. So beautiful, I need to go back!

Scenery

The top picture is from a look out point on the way to Maracas Bay. Maracas Bay is in the second cove. The bottom picture is along the hike to Three Pools in Blanchisseuse. We had to walk through a lot of water, so I was glad I had my handy-dandy hiking sandals. Due to the nature of Three Pools, I don't have any pictures of me jumping off the waterfall.

Rio Seco National Park and Waterfall

This bottom photo is the money shot of the waterfall. The middle is me jumping off the waterfall. The top is me and Martina (my roommate) in front of the waterfall.

Port of Spain

The top picture is a view of Chaguaramas west of Port of Spain and the middle picture is a view of Port of Spain from a look out point. The large house is the residence of the Prime Minister, Patrick Manning. The flag is up, which means he was in residence!

Mount Saint Benedict

These pictures are from Mount St. Benedict. There is a Catholic Church, seminary, and guest house up there where you can have afternoon tea. Martina and I like to go up here b/c it is so peaceful and COOL (temperature-wise), not to mention a beautiful.
